The Philosophy of Righteous Food

At Rishi Ahara, food is not treated as a product alone. It is viewed as a responsibility—towards the person who eats it, the farmer who grows it, the environment that provides it and the community it serves.

What Righteous Food Means?

Righteous food is prepared with good intention, honest ingredients and respect for life.

Our philosophy is inspired by Metta, or loving-kindness. This means reducing unnecessary harm, avoiding deception and making food choices that support people, nature and future generations.

We believe every meal should be:

  • Prepared with care

  • Honest in its ingredients

  • Respectful of nature

  • Suitable for everyday well-being

  • Connected to local knowledge

  • Offered without misleading claims

The Three Properties of Food

Nutritional Properties (පෝෂණ ගුණ)

Medicinal Properties (ඖෂධීය ගුණ)

Functional Properties (ක්‍රියාකාරී ගුණ)

Food provides carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins and minerals required for everyday nourishment.

Plant foods contain naturally occurring phytochemicals traditionally valued as part of a varied diet.

Plant fibres, prebiotics and beneficial microorganisms can support normal digestive functions and a balanced gut environment.

A Philosophy for Everyone

Rishi Ahara welcomes people from different cultural, religious and social backgrounds.

Our food philosophy can be adapted respectfully for Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Western food traditions while maintaining the same core values of compassion, honesty and responsible preparation.
